Delicious Variations

Use different apples – Apples can be sweet or tart or something in between but experiment with different varieties until you find your favorite. Vary the spices  – Feel free to use ground cardamom, nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice, etc.Vary the nuts – You could also use almonds, walnuts, or cashews.Make it dairy-free – swap the butter for dairy-free butter or coconut oil.Swap the fruit – use pears or peaches instead. The cooking time would be different of course.

Prep Ahead And Storage

Make-Ahead – These can definitely be made a day or two ahead of time and refrigerated. Best to reheat in the oven before serving.Store – You can store leftover apples in an airtight container for 3 days. Freeze – You can freeze baked apples.
