Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour
1 ¾ cups sugar
12 cups cocoa powder
1 tbsp baking soda
1 tsp salt , optional
1 cup buttermilk
⅔ cup vegetable oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 cup strong brewed coffee, hot
1 cup sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 cup water
2 tbsp unsalted butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Sift first 5 ingredients together in a bowl.
Add next 5 ingredients and combine.
Batter will be thin.
Pour into a buttered and floured 9 by 13-inch baking pan.
Bake for 30 minutes or until tester comes out clean when inserted in center.
Combine sugar and cornstarch in a heavy saucepan.
Add water.
Bring to a boil over medium high heat, stirring constantly.
When mixture begins to thicken, remove from heat.
Stir in butter and vanilla.
Serve sauce over cake.
