Have I ever told you that we make waffles at least once a week? Seriously – the phrase’ mama I want pancake waffles (not potato waffles mama)’ is a weekly constant around here. During this year alone we have had 2 waffle makers (one actually blew up on the first use), 6 different waffle recipes (oh what fun), 4 litres of pure maple syrup and a heck of a load of sprinkles and jam. Dedication right?

So you can imagine how quickly I jumped at the chance to test out the Smart Waffle maker from Sage Appliances. I will be reviewing that further on below. Let’s just say waffle making has never been so good around here. But first I want to kick off my waffle mania with a simple recipe for classic waffles. Golden and crispy on the outside perfect waffles. This is a great baseline waffle recipe to which you can add toppings to suit every taste and style. Fruits bring it on. Bacon, heck yeah. Roasted peaches, huhuh. African peanut stew – lush.

Rotimatic Roti Maker Review. Now that you have feasted on the waffles, let’s get down to business drooling over the rather sleek Smart Waffle Maker. It is part of the Heston Blumenthal range and with his scientific mind and attention to detail you already know it works and works really really well. This waffle maker is smart by name, and smart by nature. By that I mean it cooks waffles smartly. It lets you cook your batter for as long as you want, depending on how light or dark you want your waffles. So you get to cook your classic, Belgian, buttermilk, chocolate waffles (as well as a custom waffle setting) as perfectly as you desire. So for example, I have found that on the classic waffle setting my preferred browning setting is number five.

I want to make a big song and dance about the size of the waffles that come out of this machine. They are proper waffle thick. The kind of thickness that you know you will get from the little Belgian corner stand that everybody is raving about. The kind of waffles that would look really good stacked up high with maple syrup poured over them. And taste good. This is exactly what I have wanted for a long long time. Operating the Smart Waffle Maker is simple – you switch the machine on and select the waffle type and brown level that you want and wait until it heats up and beeps. Then you add in your batter, cover it and let it cook again till it beeps alerting you that your waffles are done. That is it. If guests prefer their waffles a little bit browner then you can easily press the ‘A Bit More’ button for that extra colour. Cleaning is also very simple aka a quick wipe down and you are done.

All waffle lovers out there know that one of the biggest annoyances we have is dribbling waffle batter all down the side of our machines during cooking. The Smart Waffle maker solves this as it has a wide wrap around moat that catches the extra batter AND cooks it too for some extra munching. Awesome right? Handy accessories that come with the smart waffles are a measuring cup so you know how much batter to add in, a recipe booklet with four recipes and tips from Heston about how to achieve the perfect waffles. Heston, my waffle loving children seriously thank you. The Smart Waffle Maker is sturdy, stylish, cooks smartly and serves up the best waffles I have ever had and with a rrp of £169.95 is an essential gadget in every kitchen. GO. BUY. ONE. NOW. I totally LOVE Sage appliances for sending me their Smart Waffle Maker to review. All opinions and waffle making love are my own. Save
