1 cup orange juice
¼ cup apple juice
1 tsp ground cinnamon
4 green pears, of your choice, whole, preferably anjou, bosc, or bartlett
2 sticks cinnamon
2 pods star anise
Peel pears, leaving the stems, then remove the core from the bottom of each pear.
Place pears in a saucepan then set over medium heat.
Add orange juice, apple juice, cinnamon sticks, and star anise.
Simmer pears for 30 minutes, turning frequently. Do not bring the liquid to a boil.
Once poached, drain the pears and set them aside.
Bring remaining poaching liquid to a boil and reduce for roughly 10 minutes until syrupy.
Set aside the syrup and allow to cool down completely, including the poached pears.
To serve, place poached pears onto a serving plate, then drizzle roughly ¼ cup of the poaching liquid. Serve immediately.
