1½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
⅛ tsp salt
⅓ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup sour cream
1 pc egg
1 tbsp unsalted butter
5 cups vegetable oil, (up to 8 cups)
For Coating:
3 tbsp granulated sugar
3 tbsp ground cinnamon
Prepare the dough first. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, sour cream, egg, and butter. Whisk until pale and smooth, roughly 5 to 7 minutes.
Fold in the flour mixture until a dough forms.
Cover the bowl and chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat your frying oil to 350 degrees F. Prepare a basket lined with paper towels.
Portion your dough into 1 to 1½ ounce balls using an ice cream scooper.
Deep fry the dough in batches until golden brown, roughly 5 minutes. Drain onto your prepared basket.
Stir to combine your ingredients for the coating.
While the doughnuts are still warm, toss these into your coating mixture. Serve immediately.
