1 lb hamburger
5¾ cups tomato juice
4 cups water
1 cup lentils, washed
1 cup carrots, diced
1 cup cabbage, diced
1 cup celery, chopped
½ cup onion, chopped
1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
1 tsp green pepper, or green pepper flakes - optional
1 bay leaf
Brown hamburger until crumbly.
Drain.
Bring tomato juice and water to a boil.
Add the rest of the ingredients.
Bring back to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 1½ hours.
Serve when ready.
