Wash, peel and quarter sweet potatoes. But, if you prefer you can skip peeling them.Add 1 cup of water into the Instant Pot insert, making sure it does not pass the fill line.Place the potatoes inside the insert, cover your Instant Pot and set the valve to the SEALING position.Select the Pressure Cook or Manual button (dependent upon IP model), select high pressure and set the timer to 14 minutes. Cook till done, then perform a complete quick pressure release.Carefully open the lid and remove the sweet potatoes from the Instant Pot, making sure to drain the cooking water.Place sweet potatoes in a large bowl and add the rest of the ingredients before mashing.Serve your Instant Pot Mashed Sweet Potatoes warm.

You don’t need to peel your sweet potatoes. You can just cut them up and add in. Try it both ways and see what you prefer.Make sure to scrub the sweet potatoes clean, as you don’t want to be tucking into gritty potatoes.I prefer to cook the sweet potatoes directly in the insert to avoid washing up, but feel free to cook them on a trivet if you prefer.You’ll need to drain the cooking water from the Instant Pot sweet potatoes before mashing.
How Long Do You Pressure Cook Sweet Potatoes
This is going to depend entirely on the size of sweet potato chunks or slices you are cooking Bigger chunks that are about 2 inch cubes will take about 12 minutes. Whilst smaller thinner disks will take about 10 minutes. My suggestion is to start with 2 inch cubes and cook for 14 minutes. You can then increase or decrease the cook time depending on your preference. It is very important that you do a quick pressure release after cooking the sweet potatoes. If you do a natural pressure release you will end up will very overcooked potatoes.
How Long Can You Store Gluten Free Sweet Potato Mash
I loooooove making Instant Pot Sweet Potato Mash for meal prep. Just follow the directions above, then let the sweet potato mash cool down completely before transferring it into an air tight container and storing in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Alternatively, you can portion the mash into freezer bags, remove all the air, label them and freeze for up to 6 months.

One of the great things about this is that you can make the mash ahead of time and simply reheat when needed. Simple mix in a tablespoon of water to loosen it up and reheat in the microwave.
