Ingredients
1½ lb sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
1¼ lb mashed potatoes, prepared, kept warm
2½ cups milk
2 cups mixed vegetables, frozen, thawed
½ cup all-purpose flour
⅓ cup beer, of your choice
¼ cup olive oil
2 oz fried onions, preferably French’s, divided
1 tbsp Italian seasoning, or your preferred seasoning blend
salt and ground black pepper, to season
cooking spray
1 sprig parsley
1 oz fried onions
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a baking casserole of your choice.
Add flour and Italian seasoning in a large mixing bowl. Season with salt and pepper, stir to combine.
Heat roughly ⅛ of oil in a wide skillet over medium-high heat.
Dredge your beef cubes and the seasoned flour, then sear in batches until golden brown, roughly 3 to 5 minutes per batch. Turn frequently, set aside.
In the same skillet, add the thawed mixed vegetables. Saute briefly, then add the remaining seasoned flour and roast briefly then add the beef.
Deglaze with beer and reduce briefly.
Add the milk, then bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and continue simmering for at least 15 minutes or until reduced by half.
Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper and add 2-ounce of the dried onion.
Transfer the beef mixture to your greased baking casserole.
Spread the mashed potatoes on top to cover all spaces. You may also design the mashed potatoes based on your preference and bake for about 30 minutes.
Portion accordingly while still warm. Garnish with parsley and fried onion and serve.
