Wash carrots and then pat dry with paper towel or a clean kitchen towel.Use a sharp knife, peel, and then slice the carrots into about half-inch slices.Pour a quarter cup of water into a microwave-safe bowl, then add sliced carrots.Cover the dish with plastic wrap, making sure to leave a small space on the edge for steam to escape.Cook carrots on high for 3 minutes before testing for doneness.Continue cooking as needed in 30-45 seconds intervals until cooked through and to your desired tenderness. When done, let them stand for a couple of minutes before draining and adding any extra flavorings.

Pro Tips

Start with fresh carrots for the best flavor. Cut into even-sized pieces so they cook evenly. Choose a microwave safe container that will hold all of your sliced vegetables without overflowing. Don’t use too much water. A quarter of a cup is truly all you will need. Don’t like plastic wrap? Cover the dish with a microwave-safe plate instead. Start checking for doneness after 3 minutes, and watch closely till they reach your desired doneness. Be careful not to overcook. If you want to serve your carrots in the bowl you used for steaming, be sure to drain out the excess water before seasoning. Make sure to carefully remove the steamed vegetables from the microwave with oven mitts or dishcloth as the bowl will be quite hot.

Prep Ahead And Storage

Prep Ahead – You can wash, dry, and then store your carrots until ready to peel, slice and microwave.  Store – Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container or a dish covered with plastic wrap inside the fridge for up to 4 days. Freeze – We don’t recommend refreezing as the texture may become mushy. Reheat – In the microwave until heated through.
