What is Dalgona Coffee?
Dalgona coffee is a popular beverage that blew up when a Macau cafe shared it on Korean TV. Dalgona coffee is made by whipping equal proportions of instant coffee powder, sugar, and hot water until it becomes creamy. Then you serve it on top of milk. My mocha whipped version has a more chocolate-y taste thanks to the cocoa powder. I’ll bet you’ll like my version more.

How To Make Dalgona Coffee at Home
In a medium mixing bowl, add instant coffee, sugar, and boiling water. Make sure to measure all ingredients using the same measuring spoon and using level measurements. Using an electric hand mixer with the whisk attachment, start on low for two minutes until everything is well mixed. Then raise the speed to medium for two minutes until the mixture starts to get bubbly/frothy. Raise the speed to high for another four minutes or until you have peaks in your mixture. (when you pause whipping it will stand up in peaks).Once thoroughly whipped, add ½ teaspoon of cocoa powder to the coffee mixture and whip on high for 30 seconds to a minute. In a glass add ice, milk, remaining cocoa powder and a pinch of salt, stir until well mixed. Top with whipped coffee. You can stir the whipped coffee into the milk or leave it separate to drink.
Recipe Tips
Make sure to measure all ingredients using the same measuring spoon and using level measurements. It is super important that you use equal portions of coffee, sugar, and water. Make sure to use a large enough bowl because as you whip this mixture it will get much larger, it also splatters a lot at the beginning.
Different mixers will take different amounts of time, and if you don’t have a mixer you can use a whisk and whip the coffee by hand. If the flavor is too strong or too bitter you can use half milk and half flavored coffee creamer.
Prep Ahead
It is great to make a big batch of this creamy whipped coffee for easy breakfasts and treats. Prep ahead. You can keep your Mocha Dalgona coffee in the fridge for a few days in an airtight container. But it takes so little time to make that it’s best to make it the day of consuming for maximum whipped peaks and flavor. Freezer. Feel free to store in the freezer for 3-4 weeks.
