1 lb dry green split peas

8 cups water

1 meaty ham bone

1 cup onion, chopped

¼ tsp garlic powder

¼ tsp dried marjoram, crushed

¼ tsp dried thyme, crushed

dash pepper

1 cup celery, chopped

1 cup carrot, chopped

½ tsp salt, or to taste

Pour water and split peas in a large saucepan or Dutch oven and let it boil for 2 minutes.

Set aside and let the peas soak for 1 hour.

Add the ham bone, onion, garlic powder, dried marjoram, dried thyme, and dash pepper.

Bring the soup to a boil again. Cover, reduce heat, and let it simmer for 2 hours. Stir occasionally.

Remove the ham meat from the bone. Chop and return to the saucepan.

Add celery and carrot. Simmer for 45 minutes while stirring occasionally.

Add salt to taste.

Serve and enjoy!
